Community and Economic Development Coordinator Andrew Zupkoff recently reported to trustees that the former Hometown Buffet has been sold to an attorney in the Tampa, Florida, area. Zupkoff also offered an update on the liquidation sale still ongoing at Bergner’s at Hickory Point Mall. The sale is expected to wrap up at the end of August. Zupkoff said he continues to be in contact and collaborate with mall management to try to fill the vacancy once Bergner’s is gone.

Lastly, Zupkoff noted that the Village of Forsyth recently overtook the City of Decatur’s Facebook page in “likes,” making Forsyth the most liked municipality in Macon County.

Public Works Director Larry Coloni reported to trustees that the water meter project continues, adding that all homes are now done. Coloni said there are six businesses to go yet before the project can be considered complete.

Coloni also noted that on August 2 there was a traffic accident at Barnett and Route 51 that briefly tied up traffic and damaged a traffic signal.
