Family Fest for 30 years!

Thursday, June 29, 2017

Living out our own theme of Field of Dreams in the midst of familiar faces, not to mention warm weather, we managed to add another successful Family Fest to our memory books. And, like always, it was fun!

This marked the 30th year for the Village’s annual get-together weekend where we gather as neighbors to appreciate this nice place we call home.

Saturday morning’s parade was the usual fun-filled, kid-pleasing event it is supposed to be as children of all ages (adults, too!) lined the route waiting to compete for grabbing candy gently tossed from those riding in the parade.

There was plenty of other fun to be had riding carnival rides, eating at the popular and tasty community cookout, eating more at Taste of Forsyth and dancing off the calories to some rock and roll music. There were animals, wagon rides, a K-9 demo put on by the Macon County Sheriff’s Office, a magic show, a 5K and fun run, bingo and, of course, face painting.

When it was all said and done, we sat back and looked up to the skies for Saturday night’s awesome fireworks show.

It was so much fun! Let’s do this all again next year!

5K/Fun Run/Tot Trot

Village Event Coordinator Shauna Bohlmann reported that this year’s “race was a great success,” noting that additions like the chip-timing system, the tot trot and directional station helpers made the race better than ever. And, she sent out kudos and thanks to race sponsors listed on the back of T-shirts.

Bohlmann was also grateful for the efforts of the 5K coordinator team of Trustee Bob Gruenewald, Chris Kopeika and Jessica Bagley; for Adam Lewis for stepping in as DJ; for Area 51 Salon, Decatur Earthmover Credit Union, and Decatur First Church of the Nazarene for staffing directional stations.

Other helpful volunteers included: Loes Padrutt and Ariane Buckley for helping on the course, as well as Pat and Benny Lourash, Joan Dougherty and Pat Coons.
