Forsyth Classic taking final bow after 35 years

Thursday, June 13, 2019

The Village of Forsyth will be a busy place this weekend with Family Fest and the Forsyth Classic golf tournament being contested at Hickory Point Golf Course June 14-16. The “Road to the LPGA” passes through town for what appears to be the final time as a field of 144 players competes over 54 holes for a purse of $200,000, the largest in the event’s history. The winner will take home $30,000.

This will be the 35th year for the tournament, part of the LPGA’s Symetra Tour, making it the oldest event on the tour. Even with the Village’s role as title sponsor, the tour announced earlier this year that this will be the last year as the tournament has faced challenges locally to land sponsors.

Cindy Deadrick Wolfer, tournament director, called it “bittersweet” for everyone involved.
