Items of interest from village staff and recent board meetings

  • During the August 21 law enforcement report, Macon County Sheriff’s Deputy Shane Beck announced that Deputy Ashley Higar, a 10-year veteran of the department, is leaving September 8 to work as a pilot for Envoy Air, a regional carrier for American Airlines. Higar is a Blackhawk helicopter pilot for the National Guard. He said he will continue to live in Forsyth and commute to O’Hare Airport for his new job. “It’s been my pleasure to serve,” Higar said. 
  • Community and Economic Development Coordinator Andrew Zupkoff’s August 21 report noted that he had a recent conference call with the Hickory Point Mall leasing staff to discuss the feasibility of a grocery store being located at the mall. The role the TIF district might play in such a project was discussed. Zupkoff gave development update presentations in Au- gust to Forsyth Community Watch and the Decatur/Millikin SCORE chapter. 
  • At the Planning and Zoning Commission meeting on July 27, Chairman Bill Busbey asked for nominations for commission vice chairperson. Alternate Terry Taylor suggested commission member Dennis Downey for the position. Village Attorney Jeff Jurgens said a vice chair should be appointed annually. All votes were Yea. Downey, who has 22 years of service to the commission, abstained. 
  • Due to the Labor Day holiday, the next regular meeting of the Forsyth Board of Trustees is Tuesday, September 5, 2017, at 6:30 p.m. in Village Hall at 301 S. Route 51 in Forsyth. Board meetings are held the first and third Mondays of the month and are open to the public.
