Memorial Youth Garden honors Larry Reed

Thursday, July 11, 2019

The tradition of planting beautiful flowers in front of Forsyth Public Library continued this year with a name change. Forsyth Public Library Director Rachel Miller’s report to trustees for the June 3 meeting made note of a group of people wanting to honor the memory of the late Larry Reed, longtime Board member who died last year, by renaming this year’s Youth Garden in Reed’s name.

Young gardeners gathered on June 4 to beautify the library with the help of the Garden Club of Decatur, then make pollinator growing cards under the direction of the Macon County Master Gardeners from the University of Illinois.

Reed was a supporter and sponsor of the Youth Garden for a number of years, and it now bears bright signage that reads: “Larry Reed Memorial Youth Garden.”

Board members expressed their gratitude to Miller for honoring Reed in this special way, which they said Reed himself would’ve appreciated.
