Residents brave cold for Christmas tree ceremony

Thursday, December 13, 2018

Even with light but chilly rain misting the crowd on an even chillier night, the Fourth Annual Christmas Tree Lighting Celebration in Forsyth Park on December 2 proved popular again this year. Attendance was impressive as the Village’s Christmas tree was officially lit brightly for the season after a countdown led by Mayor Marilyn Johnson.

The turnout was so good that parking overflowed out on to Forsyth Parkway from the park. Attendees could enjoy free horse-drawn wagon rides, a visit by Santa and Mrs. Claus or they could warm their bones with steaming cups of hot cocoa. The best part of the night for many people came from the splendid voices of children singing Christmas carols.

Thanks to the volunteers and to everyone who braved the temperatures to make this still-young event a success again this year! Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all!
