Trees ready for planting around Village

Thursday, December 28, 2017

In the early 19th century, Johnny Appleseed passed through Illinois on a mission to see to it that trees — apple trees were his obvious choice — were planted all over the countryside. Handling that noble work for the Village are Public Works Director Larry Coloni and his capable staff.

It’s at this time of year that Coloni and crew plant new trees around the Village. The Village’s Tree Board picks the locations for where the new trees get planted. This year Coloni has 25 assorted maples ready to be put in the ground.

This is all part of helping the Village maintain its Tree City USA designation, Coloni said. And, it plays a big part in making the Village look so nice.
