Village, school district renew ball diamond agreement

Thursday, July 26, 2018

A lease agreement between the Village of Forsyth and the local school district has been renewed, effective July 15.

Resolution No. 5-2018, a resolution approving a lease agreement between the Village of Forsyth and Maroa-Forsyth Community Unit School District No. 2 regarding ball diamond use at Forsyth Park, was on the agenda at the June 18 Board Meeting.

The school district wants to continue using the premises for baseball and softball games. The lease agreement stipulates that teams from Maroa-Forsyth schools will have use of ball diamonds 1, 4 and 5, in addition to use of the concession stand.

The previous lease was set to expire on July 15. The new lease, when approved, would be in effect starting again on July 15, 2018, and terminating on December 31, 2023. The lease calls for the school district to pay $10,500 per year, with payment due on or before the first day of October each year.

Village Administrator David Strohl recommended approval of the agreement, saying it was basically the same agreement that had been in place for years, with some improvements added.

The improvements include improving sight visibility for the diamond 5 bleachers, in addition to adding safety netting/fencing, also to diamond 5 for protection of spectators from foul balls. The Village is responsible for upkeep, preparation and maintenance of the grounds while the school district is responsible for utility costs.

Per the lease agreement, Maroa-Forsyth baseball and softball teams also have priority use of the diamonds (when games and practices have been “timely scheduled”) over other youth and recreation leagues during the following time periods:

Ball diamonds 4 and 5: March 1 through June 10

Ball diamond 1: August 1 through October 5

Trustee Jim Peck made the motion to approve, which was seconded by Trustee David Wendt. All votes were Yea. The lease was approved.
