Updated design is the first in 20 years

The Village debuted its new logo last week after trustees made a selection from a handful of replacement design options at the January 7 board meeting. The idea for updating the Village’s logo was part of the Fiscal Year 2019 Annual Budget discussions.

The new logo, which is already in use on the Village’s social media accounts, will continue to be rolled out over time on existing structures in the Village.

Village Administrator David Strohl told trustees that he and Community and Economic Development Coordinator Nik Duffle had met with Goss Advertising to work on a new design. Strohl told trustees in a memo that the goal was to maintain the green font color and to keep the “Pride and Progress” slogan. He added that the new logo should “represent the concept of progress or moving forward or upward.”

The idea was not a complete overhaul but an update of a logo estimated to be about 20 years old.

“We were trying to update the iconography and font,” Strohl said. “But we did not want to do major changes since people are accustomed to the color and to Pride and Progress.”

The process involved Goss initially producing six designs then, based on the Village’s feedback, adding eight additional designs. To help in the decision-making process, those designs were eventually whittled by Village staff to five designs that were considered by trustees. Trustees were also presented with mockups that showed how the designs would look affixed to the Village’s water towers and entrance signs.

By a show of hands, there were five votes in favor of Design No. 2 (see Page 1). Trustee Kerstin Trachtenberg asked about a time frame for changing everything over to the new logo.

“I don’t have a definitive timeline,” Strohl said. “It will be phased in over time.”
